Didymo control

Since September 2005, Didymosphenia geminata (Didymo) has been found in various South Island rivers, including the Hawea and Upper Clutha Rivers which are part of the catchment area for Contact's hydro-electric power stations.

Didymo has been declared an unwanted organism under the Biosecurity Act 1993. To ensure you do not spread Didymo, wherever possible restrict equipment, boats, clothing and other items for exclusive use in a single waterway.

Go to Biosecurity New Zealand for more information on Didymo and how to prevent its spread.

Hydro Spill data

Contact operates two hydroelectric power stations on the South Island's Clutha River, at Clyde and Roxburgh. We are committed to the careful and efficient use of water resources. However, water must from time to time be spilled from the dams, for a variety of operational reasons.

The following tables and explanatory notes are provided in accordance with the Voluntary Hydro Spill Reporting undertaken by major hydro generators. Industry standards are currently being finalised for hydro spill reporting and these tables will be updated to comply with these standards, as necessary.
