Assessing energy requirements
It is a good idea to reassess your energy requirements when you move into a building or add or remove machinery.
Moving properties
You will be invoiced based on the previous customer's supply requirements until you upgrade or downgrade. This can mean that you pay more in line charges than needed (downgrade required) or that your supply is unstable (upgrade required). When moving, contact your electrician to discuss your energy requirements. If you require further information, please contact our Account Management Team on 0800 271 271 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm).
Adding or removing machinery
When you add new machinery, the maximum amount of electricity coming into the property (kVA) may not be sufficient and this can lead to power failures, such as a fuse blowing. Upgrading the kVA coming in will help make sure you can operate the machinery as you want. Upgrading may mean that you move into a new Network load group, and this may change your line charges.
Likewise, when you take out machinery, you may no longer need the kVA you had previously and, by downgrading, you may be able to take advantage of the pricing in a different load group from your Network company.
Talk to your electrician to make sure your supply is suitable for your business. Contact our Account Management Team for further information or help with the line charges that would apply to your site after upgrading or downgrading.
