Release of Commerce Commission report

Contact Energy today received the Commerce Commission’s report into the wholesale electricity market, and welcomed the Commission’s decision to close the inquiry.

Contact Energy Managing Director David Baldwin said that while Contact has not yet had the opportunity to study the extensive report, its conclusion that all generators have operated within the market rules means the wider issues raised can now be constructively addressed by the Ministerial taskforce.

Contact is undertaking a thorough review of the report and will provide feedback on it to the Ministerial taskforce.

“We are committed to working with the Government and industry to find workable solutions to any substantive issues around market design to ensure the market remains competitive while at the same time delivers the level of security which customers demand,” he said.
