Discover how to make every bill the same with SmoothPay

SmoothPay spreads your electricity and natural gas payments evenly throughout the year, so you pay the same amount every month – regardless of the season. It’s easy, convenient and the perfect way to avoid any ‘surprises’.

How it works

  • We calculate your electricity and/or natural gas costs over a year, and divide this into weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments – whatever suits you best.
  • We send you your monthly bill as usual, so you have a record of how much energy you've used.
  • On the agreed payment day, we deduct the agreed payment amount from your bank account by direct debit. Because you pay by direct debit you’re guaranteed to receive your prompt payment discount as long as you keep to your payment schedule.
  • Every four months we review your account to check your regular payments are consistent with the amount of energy you're actually using. If your payments need to be adjusted, we'll give you at least ten days' notice before a new payment amount is deducted from your bank account.

Getting set up - how it works

Residential customers (choose from one of two ways):

  1. Sign up through an Online Services account. Go to "Payment Options – SmoothPay" under “Billing” in your account. If you don’t have an Online Services account, register for one here. Our system will let you know what your payments will be.
  2. Give us a call on 0800 80 9000. We'll let you know what your payments will be, and then you'll need to fill in the PDF document SmoothPay form (52KB) and post it back to us. So your application can be processed quickly, parts A, C and D on the form need to be completed. We can post you a form to complete if you prefer. Just let us know.
  3. And that’s it. We’ll let you know when you’re up and running with SmoothPay.

Business Customers:

  1. Give us a call or email to find out what your payments will be - 0800 20 9000
  2. Then fill in the PDF document SmoothPay form (52KB) and post it to us. So your application can be processed quickly, Parts A, C and D on the form need to be completed. We can post a form to you if you prefer. Just let us know.
  3. And that’s it. We’ll let you know when you’re up and running with SmoothPay.
